چکیده
Rotator cuff tears are a ubiquitous cause of shoulder pain and disability. Full thickness rotator cuff tears are present in 19-21% of the general population, and their prevalence increases with age. The incidence of this problem is exacerbated by the ever advancing age of our patient population. Thankfully, with advances in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, this has become a treatable problem with low morbidity, few complications, and good success. Although patients can do well in the face of a persistent or recurrent rotator cuff tear after arthroscopic repair, several studies have documented better subjective and objective results when the rotator cuff tear has been documented to heal. It is for this reason that much emphasis and many resources have been dedicated to improving the success of rotator cuff healing after arthroscopic repair. Several areas have been explored as possible solutions to this complex problem. Proposals have included improving patient factors such as smoking cessation. Improving the local milieu with various growth factors and scaffolds has also been suggested. However, the 1 factor that has probably received the most attention to date is improving the initial fixation strength and recreating the anatomic footprint of the rotator cuff to ameliorate this problem. Traditional open rotator cuff repairs using tranosseous bone tunnels had the advantage of reapproximating the rotator cuff tendon solidly onto the greater tuberosity while

Clinical and structural outcomes after arthroscopic single-row versus double-row rotator cuff repair: a systematic review and meta-analysis of level I randomized clinical trials.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of all available level I randomized controlled trials comparing single-row with double-row repair to statistically compare clinical outcomes and imaging-diagnosed re-tear rates. METHODS A literature search was undertaken to identify all level I randomized controlled trials comparing structural or clinica...
متن کاملMeta-analysis of Clinical and Radiographic Outcomes After Arthroscopic Single-Row Versus Double-Row Rotator Cuff Repair
CONTEXT Double-row rotator cuff repair methods have improved biomechanical performance when compared with single-row repairs. OBJECTIVE To review clinical outcomes of single-row versus double-row rotator cuff repair with the hypothesis that double-row rotator cuff repair will result in better clinical and radiographic outcomes. DATA SOURCES Published literature from January 1980 to April 20...
متن کاملClinical outcomes of single versus double row, transosseous equivalent arthroscopic rotator cuff repair
Rotator cuff tears are common and are expected to present with increasing frequency as the population ages. Various techniques in surgical repair have been described to improve clinical outcomes. A arthroscopic transosseous-equivalent double row repair is believed to be superior, with improved tendon to bone contact area and reduced gap formation. In our series of 143 patients, with 76 undergoi...

Single-row (SR) and doublerow (DR) repair techniques have been well described, but recent studies have suggested the biomechanical superiority of transosseous-equivalent (TOE) DR repairs and triple-row (TR) rep...
متن کاملArthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Biomechanical Comparison of Single Row and Suture-Bridge Tendon Repair Constructs
INTRODUCTION: Rotator cuff tears are a very common source of pain and loss of function of the shoulder. As arthroscopic instrumentation and repair techniques have evolved, many studies have demonstrated success in repairing rotator cuff tears using these arthroscopic techniques alone compared with an open repair method. Despite these successful clinical outcomes, both open and arthroscopic rota...
متن کاملSummary of Meta-Analyses Dealing with Single-Row versus Double-Row Repair Techniques for Rotator Cuff Tears
BACKGROUND Several meta-analyses of randomized clinical trials have been performed to analyze whether double-row (DR) rotator cuff repair (RCR) provides superior clinical outcomes and structural healing compared to single-row (SR) repair. The purpose of this study was to sum up the results of meta-analysis comparing SR and DR repair with respect on clinical outcomes and re-tear rates. METHODS...
